It is no secret the pandemic and the rise of virtual work have challenged organizations' ability to engage the hearts and minds of its people and grow connections between colleagues. Is simply meeting more the answer? Decades of work into virtual distance shows how physical distance only accounts for half as much of the impact to engagement as operational distance which in turn only has half the impact of affinity distance. As event designers, how do we us face to face meetings to close not just the physical, but the operational and affinity distance for our internal and external clients? What events in our portfolio must be live and what design patterns can we use to expedite closing operational and affinity distance to increase the value of our events? Join Melissa Van Dyke as she unpacks decades of research on operational distance (ensuring you have equitable technologies, processes, tools, communications and workloads) and affinity distance (connecting to others cultural, relationship, socially) to help grow the impact of events. Affinity Distance has four times more of an effect on organizational success than Physical Distance alone!
